The Beast is Hungry Tonight

Tonight the beast is hungry
And his victim aims to please
She cooks a hearty dinner
With the hopes he will receive
As he walks through the door
She prays for a good night
Hoping his day was pleasant
And he's in no mood to fight
She greets him with a hug
Oh boy was she wrong
His violent temper flares
And his back hand is strong
As he sits down for dinner
She seeks approval and consent
Instead she's faced with criticism
And her efforts were dismissed
She failed to smell the alcohol
Lurking from his breath
His tone was filled with anger
As he pushed her to the left
He throws the dinner to the floor
Then shakes her with full force
His stare is filled with hatred
And his soul has no remorse
The beast is now annoyed
And he's focused on his prey
He releases all his anger
And frustrations of his day
She's accustomed to this behavior
As he shoves her to the rug
She confuses all his anger
And mistakes it for his love
What she fails to realize is
Her son has witnessed it all
The result of this behavior
Will serve as his downfall
Hopefully he won't repeat the actions
Of the angry beast
She prays he'll find a different way
To channel and release
Knowing this she still holds on
Confusing love with misery
Although it did cross her mind
To kill him in his sleep
Torn between fear and love
There's no escape for her distress
So after another violent night
She allows the beast to rest
She thinks not of the reasons why
She suffers this abuse
Instead she thinks of ways to hide
And makes up an excuse
Next time I'll fix a better meal
My actions I'll rearrange
No matter what she chooses to do
The beast will never change
